Builders Affidavits – Filings

A builder’s affidavit can be filed for the current year if you are a builder or owner of the property that is in the process of construction and not complete on January 1st of the current year.  This is for newly Single-Family Dwellings per Section 27-31-29 per the Mississippi Code of 1972.  The purpose of this affidavit is to request the tax assessor to not assess for this structure until it is complete.  Normally, it will be taxed the following year on the future tax roll if the circumstance prevails.    This affidavit needs to be filed in the Tax Assessor’s Office on or before April 1st of the current year.

You may also file this affidavit if the property was complete on January 1st but has not been leased, rented, sold or otherwise occupied by anyone.

The affidavit must state the year for the application being filed, the information on the property and must be signed by the builder or owner of the property.  This form must have a notary signature.

The Tax Assessor’s Office will no longer mail reminder notices for you to file the affidavits.  However, the Builder’s Affidavit is on this site for you to print and return to the office.   The mailing address is:
