Date:  March 12, 2020

A STATEMENT FROM THE RANKIN COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS REGARDING COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

The Rankin County Board of Supervisors, in conjunction with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office and the Rankin County Emergency Operations Center, continues to monitor the developing situation involving the CoViD-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak.  The leadership of Rankin County is aware of the rapidly changing nature of this situation and is responding with an eye toward protecting the health and safety of our citizens, some of whom are our employees.  The health and safety of Rankin County citizens is our top priority.  In 2017, Rankin County proactively adopted an emergency response plan in conjunction with federal, state, and local officials and partners.  A part of the emergency response plan includes response to large-scale public health challenges such as the one affecting us today.  Our EOC, law enforcement and healthcare first responders, as well as, members of the healthcare community, have been, and will continue to, provide strategic analysis designed to recognize challenges to our healthcare capacity as they occur and respond efficiently and promptly in the event the local situation reaches a critical stage.  As provided for in our emergency response plan, Rankin County acts as a partner to federal, state and other local authorities as part of a broader effort to contain the potential impacts of infectious disease.  To that end, Rankin County stands with and supports the efforts of the designated lead agency, the Mississippi State Department of Health, to address appropriate public health information and recommendations to our citizens.  Below are links to information provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the Mississippi State Department of Health.  These links are trustworthy and provide instructions to the public, businesses, health professionals and others with respect to critical recommendations.  Additional links may be added as circumstances warrant.  Please refer to these links for the latest information on CoViD-19 and recommendations specific to your needs or concerns.  We encourage you to read and follow these recommendations.  We also encourage our citizens to check back frequently for additional information as circumstances warrant.
